FOR COWS: There are important differences between the formulae, so it is essential to use the right one for a given condition. For example, in some conditions, it is important to give a cow supplementary potassium. In others, supplementary potassium may increase the risk of disease. Farmers should take advice from their vet on which formula or formulae to use.
Some of the SELEKT formulae are powders, some are liquids. The powders should be dissolved in warm water at a rate of one sachet per 20 litres. The volume of water used per sachet should never be less than this, as harmful effects could ensue. The liquid formulae may be used with solutions of the powder formulae without additional water.
Good dissolution of the powders in water is important. To achieve it, use warm water, and stir the powder in with an implement such as a SELEKT whisk. If good dissolution is not achieved, undissolved powder will be left in the bucket when all the liquid has been pump-drenched. This means the cow has not received the intended quantity, and some of it has been wasted.
